Behind-the-Scenes

Meet Luke Lutman, Senior Developer

What do you do?

I’m a programmer. I write code that tells the game what to do when you tap or swipe on your device. The most interesting part of my job is thinking like a preschooler: “I wonder what happens if I use all my fingers?!”.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I was pretty sure I’d grow to be a LEGO designer making new LEGO sets all day, every day.

I can’t live without…

My bike. I ride almost every day and I always look forward to it. Fresh legs and big hills is my idea of fun. (Yeah, I’m weird.)

Who do you admire most?

My Grandad. He taught me how to windsurf when he was in his 70s. I hope to be equally awesome someday.

What is your idea of fun?

Going somewhere I’ve never been before. It doesn’t have to be far away, I’m happy just taking the long way home and see somewhere new.

Favorite toy growing up?

LEGO. I loved the idea books you could buy. I’d look at the pictures for hours and hours, trying to figure out how they did it. I kept all my LEGO over the years, and now they belong to my kids.

Best thing about kids...

You know the best thing about kids? They know what’s important in life, like building LEGO and riding bikes!

Sago Mini is magical because…

… what’s fun for kids is fun for us, too. I’ve had very serious conversations at work like, “Exactly how squishy should the frosting be?” about a character who gets a cupcake in the face. It’s the best.

Best advice:

Say yes. Whatever happens, at least you’ll have a good story!

Best parenting tip:

Relax. Everything is going to be ok.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in London, ON. The house where I grew up was kind of special because my dad grew up in the house and my grandad built the house. I live in Toronto now, but the house is still in our family.

Proudest DIY:

I used to play a lot of Gran Turismo (a racing game) and I got a steering wheel and pedals that hooked up to the PlayStation for Christmas one year. My dad and I built a custom wooden rig that clamped onto a POANG chair from IKEA and kept everything in just the right spot for me. It looked ridiculous in the living room, but I loved it.
