A better bath toy: How we made a classic toy safer – and way more fun

When brainstorming ideas for Sago Mini’s expanded line of toys for 2017, the designers stumbled across something interesting – after bringing their kids' bath toys in for inspiration, they noticed some icky black bits. After cutting them open, they found the insides of their kids’ beloved toys were covered in gunk – some of them even moldy. They had a problem to solve – reinvent a classic favourite: the bath toy.

“After the viral news story of Sophie the Giraffe mold, we saw an opportunity to make the product more fun but also more safe,” says Samson Lee, head of Consumer Products at Sago Mini. Their new Easy Clean Bath Squirters come with detachable tops, allowing parents to easily open, clean and dry the toys before they can invite bacteria & mold. “We didn’t have to do this, as most parents probably don’t realize it’s a problem, but we wanted to as many of us are parents too” Lee explains.

But what's safe isn't necessarily fun. Sticking true to their principle of making toys that both parents and kids love, the designers doubled down on the cute for these new bath toys. Bathtime becomes a pool party featuring the much-loved characters from Sago Mini’s apps.

Each squirter comes with a tres chic pool accessory – the pink doughnut wouldn’t be out of place at any city pool! Easy for little hands to squeeze, each detail was thoughtfully designed – from the belt on Robin’s life jacket to the colourful BPA-free exteriors.
