Four Ways to Beat Cabin Fever

cab·in fe·ver

noun NORTH AMERICAN informal

  1. 01
irritability, listlessness, and similar symptoms resulting from long confinement or isolation indoors during the winter.

When the weather outside is frightful, kids can be anything but delightful. Cabin fever is real, and keeping preschoolers preoccupied while preparing feasts for the whole family & somehow ticking off that Santa’s list is, well, next to impossible. We share a few tips below for fun activities to do indoors this holiday season.

4. Have an indoorsy kind of Snow Day

Is your winter weather more ‘slushy, rainy and grey’ than ‘fresh dusting of sparkly snow’? Have no fear – relive the magic of a sled ride through freshly-fallen snow in our newest game, Snow Day!

As you guide the characters through the sleepy ski village, encourage your little ones to tell creative stories about their snowy journey – Are they going to visit friends for a holiday decorating party? Or maybe they’re off to build a snowman before the snow melts!

Snow Day is now available exclusively in World.

3. Build the ultimate fort

Cozy, creative forts are a snow day classic. Whether they’re used for raucous, rambunctious play or snuggly storytime, snag some tips for pillow fort perfection below:

  • Provide props. A stack of pillows can become a diner, a racecar or an igloo with the right creative add-ons.
  • Harness some mood lighting. A simple string of twinkly fairy lights makes magic.
  • Consider structural integrity. No good fort was built by blankets alone. Chairs, large boxes and even tables provide structure to build around. (And parents, this is the part where some muscle may be needed!) Heavy items can be used to weigh down blankets as well.
  • Think outside the blanket. When it gets dark, project a story on the fort’s wall. We love Moonlite, a portable projector that attaches to your smartphone. (Bonus: we have an exclusive Sago Mini story featured on it!)

2. Simulate summer

Sago Mini World gives you access to all our games in one place – and we wouldn’t be surprised if we see more gameplay of the sunnier games as the temperature dips! Whether you’re jetsetting to warmer places in Planes, cruisin’ the Carribean in Boats or learning numbers and shapes on a tropical island in Puppy Preschool, there are plenty of locales to warm up your imagination in!

You can try Sago Mini World free for 7 days – perfect for waiting out a cold snap!

1. Colour us old-fashioned

There’s nothing like hunkering down with some holiday tunes, a few stubby crayons and a classic colouring sheet. Click for some exclusive Snow Day colouring pages (and it's totally okay with us if you colour outside of the lines).
